Dear All - On behalf of All Cannings and Villages Neighbourhood First Responders, we would like to thank the Community, the Bands, Ann Cooper and the Shop for your valid donations and support during the Saturday night "Rural Command Performance" at the All Cannings School. The night was excellent with support from all the bands and comedy sketches. The raffle donations turned over a value of £100, which is excellent!!

The donation will go to our trust fund held the Wiltshire St. John Ambulance for the purchase of a New First Responder Emergency kit and 5x new all season winter jackets, which we are raising money for. This money also helps with supplies, training and logistics for the scheme.

Again thank you for your support for this worth while community scheme!

With the support and direction from the Wiltshire St. John Ambulance Service and the Wiltshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, we are trained and equipped to support your community in specific emergency situations. Mr Pickwick's Christmas. By Charles Dickens, starting at 7.30pm.
All Saints Church, All Cannings.
Suitable for all adults and accompanied children aged 10yrs and over. A one man show performed by Robert MacCall.

Robert who comes from Salisbury is a qualified storyteller who trained at Emerson College of storytelling takes his inspiration from the public readings that Dickens himself gave.
Mr Pickwick and his friends travel by stagecoach to enjoy an exuberent country Christmas at Dingley Dell. Tickets available from AC village shop or by calling 01380-862925. £6 adults and £4 for children.

New Year 2008: After the indulgences of Christmas and the new year, the Friends of All Saints' thought that perhaps people might like to lose some unwanted pounds, so they are organising a sponsored slim, which will last for a month, starting on Sunday, January 6. Forms and all the details necessary will be available at various places in the village from December 6.
New Year 2008: The panto team are in the process of rehearsing for Robin Hood, which is going to be performed in Alton Barnes village hall on March 7 and 8. They are in particular looking for help with the sound equipment, a very responsible job, but ideal for someone who understands the technology. They have also put out an appeal for any handy people who would like to assist in set building. If you would like to know more, or can help in any way, please call Anne Cooper on 01380 860174
Xmas 2007: All Saints' Church - services over the Christmas period are as follows :
* Sunday, December 23 there will be carols by candelight
in the decorated church at 6.30pm. This is usually a very popular service so come early to guarantee a good seat.
* On Christmas Eve there are two services, a Christingle and Crib service at 3pm for the children mainly, but adults are of course very welcome, and at 11.30pm there will be a midnight mass.
* This is followed on Christmas Day with festive communion at 10am.
* On Sunday, December 30 there will be a united benefice service in All Saints at 10am when both the other churches will be joining the regular congregation in a joint service.
15th Dec 2007: Christmas Tradional Wreath Workshop - Jenny Bills of Floral Focus is taking a workshop at the Village Hall on Saturday 15th December at 2pm. All materials, and refreshments supplied. Cost £35. (1 place left). There will possibly be another workshop on the afternoon of Sunday 16th December to accommodate those who want to come and can't make it on the Saturday.
Dec 2007: Kings Arms wins Gold Medal in Perfect Pint Awards! - Richard & Ginny at the Kings Arms were thrilled to receive the Gold Medal in the Wadworth's Perfect Pint Awards, presented by Charles Bartholomew, the Chairman of Wadworth's. Richard & Jinny have been running the pub since June 2003 and have really hit the ground running, winning this award against stiff local competition. Many congratulations!
10th Nov 2007:

All Cannings-based rock band LiquidMetal are supporting Out of the Blue at 'The Wiltshire Wobbler' at The Bouverie Hall on North Street, Pewsey. This celebration of real ale born and bred in Wiltshire is in aid of the local Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity from 7 - 11pm and is for over 18s only!

Bonfire Night - The pre-school bonfire is being held in the pub field this Saturday. Everyone is hoping for a lovely dry evening it enjoy the usual wonderful firework display. The gates open at 6pm and tickets are available then; adults £ 3.50; children £ 1.50; families £ 10. This is a very important fundraising event for the pre-school. As ever, there is plenty of food and drink available to purchase, as well as the convenience of the nearby hostelry.

Plans are well in advance for the Open Gardens weekend on July 7 and 8, which is being organised by the Friends of All Saints'. A good number of villagers have happily agreed to open their gardens, as well as have some sort of fundraising stall, or activity in their gardens to make the whole weekend a good experience, all helping to raise much needed funds for the church fabric. The Saturday will enable visitors to view the gardens in All Cannings, and then on the Sunday, Allington will be putting on a good show. 5th May 2007: Girls cricket session, 11am - All Cannings Cricket Club wants to encourage more girls to play cricket.

How about coming to a ‘taster’ session on Saturday 5th May from 11.00 - 12.00 at the ground, where you will get a chance to learn some skills and have a game in an all-girls (age 7+) coaching session. (No previous cricket experience necessary.) At the end of the session you will have an opportunity to see a team of women players who will be playing at All Cannings that afternoon.

The Club has run coaching for local youngsters for over 10 years and is planning to run mixed training sessions from May. We have 4 qualified coaches. It also hopes to link in with the girls’ cricket league being coordinated across Wiltshire.

A maths teacher in a very poor part of west Uganda is struggling to teach the children with only ten copies amongst a class of fifty children. A celebratory party for the Community Store is being held in the village hall at 7pm. The whole commmunity, particularly shareholders and volunteers are welcome as the shop has been open for a whole year. They will be brought up to date with the trading position, as well as being introduced to Christmas promotions in the shop.
At the same time it will be an opportunity for the committee to thank all those who have had faith in the enterprise and helped to make it such a success. There will also be the chance to support the Wiltshire Air Ambulance service by buying participating in the raffle.

Village Hall - An appeal for new blood to rescue the declining number of members of the hall committee, as both the chairman, Isobel Lane, and the treasurer, Cynthia Luffman are retiring after many years of loyal service. Many thanks to them for all their time and effort.

The AGM is to be held on Wednesday, October 18 at 8pm in the village hall. Hopefully there will be a good attendance because, with no committee, the village could lose the use of the hall. So please do come and be counted!

Cricket Club 6-a-side competition - all welcome! 8 teams battle it out to win the coveted 'Ball on a Piece of Wood' prize. BBQ and refreshments + raffle to (nearly) round off a successful season. Come along to your village cricket ground and count the sixes!

*update* - an amazing day saw over 2300 runs scored and much fun had by all. The competition was won by Charlie Moss's team who beat Andy Legg's team in a final just before darkness fell!

August 2006: Best Kept Village: All Cannings deserves to pat itself on the back as they have come second in this very prestigious competition for a medium sized village in Wiltshire. They were awarded 96 points, only losing by one point to Lea. This competition is run by the Campaign to Protect Rural England and the chairman of the Kennet Group, Dr John Kirkman, will be making a presentation of a certificate at some future date to the parish council, as well as a cheque. 29th July 2006: All Cannings rock band LiquidMetal are teaming up with other young local bands for a RockFest at Alton Barnes Coronation Hall for 11-16 yr-olds. Starting at 7.30pm, tickets are only £1.50, including a donation to charity. Drinks & snacks - no alcohol. This is the first of what is hoped may be a series of events designed to bring together young teenagers from the different villages around the Vale to play and listen to live music.
July 2006: The very long awaited new postbox is now installed outside the village hall. Congratulations go to those on the committee who pursued this project with the Post Office.
14th July 2006: The Street was filled with runners, walkers and cyclists all participating in the Sports relief mile. Most seemed to be wearing only one red sock, and it was explained that when they completed the course and returned to school, they would be presented with the matching sock. It was great to see so much activity in the centre of the village with all generations taking part. The afternoon was finished off by the school holding games of rounders and a barbecue. :) *Report in the Gazette & Herald*
9th July 2006: Pupils from All Cannings School, many of whom also play for the cricket club, represented Kennet District and reached the final of the Wiltshire Youth Games cricket competition in Bath, despite often coming up against older players. Many congratulations to all concerned - even greater things to come no doubt.
July 2006: Best Kept Village competition: Congratulations to everyone in the village who conscientiously picks up rubbish and keeps the front of their houses tidy, because All Cannings has just won the medium village category of the Kennet District round of the best kept village competition. The village received considerable praise in all the categories and we will now go through to the county round. Judging for this will be taking place at any time in the next week or so; in fact it might have already happened. So keep up the good work and we might have a good chance of winning the county competition this year!

11am to 4pm Strawberry Fayre at Woodborough Garden Centre
As well as picking our superb fruit, you’ll find delicious local food produce to sample and buy, and be able to seek out an unusual gift from our of our craft exhibitors.

Peter Vaughan from The Healthy Life and Bistro in Devizes will demonstrate delicious recipes for you to try at home, and Devizes Samba Band and Kennet Vale Band will provide music and drum beats to liven up your senses. There's also a fabulous Hog Roast and Strawberry Cream Teas will be available from the Coffee Shop.

Together with a bouncy castle, an authentic Victorian merry-go-round and ponies to ride, we’ll have some spectacular birds of prey, rare breeds and unusual reptiles. A treasure hunt and a roving magician will be on offer, as well as plenty of other activities to keep the kids amused.

30th April 2006: Sarsen trail: The annual walk from Avebury to Stonehenge organised by Wiltshire Wildlife was, as usual, very well supported. All Cannings is the only village the participants pass through on their long hike, and it was good to see so many keen walkers and runners continuing to flow down The Street for a good part of the day on such a lovely day. The community store, the village hall and the cricket club all benefited from hungry, thirsty, friendly and happy people as they arrived!

1st April 2006: The pre-school will be holding their annual easter egg hunt in the garden of Rose Cottage from 10am to 12pm. As well as hunting for eggs, children will be able to have their faces painted, take part in games, as well as buy raffle tickets and enjoy refreshments. This is a very popular event in the calendar!

Tickets are available from All Cannings School, in the shop and the King's Arms or from Anne Cooper (01380 860 174). With most of the cast coming from All Cannings there should be a lot of laughs!

March 2006: Friends of All Cannings Church - A small committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Peter Griffin to look into ways of raising funds for the maintenance of the lovely, grade II listed church. If anyone would like to be involved in this worthwhile
committee, Peter would like to hear from them on 01380 862925
Feb 2006: The church bellringers were recently awarded the Norman Knee Trophy; this is given by the local society of bellringers to the band which gave the most improved performance in the annual striking competition. They were thrilled to receive the trophy, and are hoping they can do even better in the next competition!
Feb 2006: There will be a marvellous opportunity to browse - and hopefully buy - books at the fair which is being held in All Cannings School hall from 22 to 24 February. If a child has a £1 world book day token, these can be used as part payment.

3rd Feb 2006: Quiz night at 8pm at All Cannings School. Tables of 4 for just £8. Come and pit your wits against other parents and residents, and raise funds for the school too!
Jan 2006: Congratulations to Richard and Ginny at the King's Arms for all their hard work, which has paid off with a Silver award for the perfect pint competition run by Wadworths for all their pubs.
Jan 2006: Village Hall Committee: a whitebeam tree has been purchased in memory of Mick Hunt, who was a very active committee member, and will be planted in the grounds when the weather improves! A proper post box is finally due to be installed outside the village hall to replace the temporary one.
